I will not take a bath

We start this reading module with the students of cicle inicial as a target group to move to the ones in cicle mitjà and to focus then on cicle superior.

The aim of this practice as in the next ones is to promote reading through e-books, which provides us with an added value: sound. Young children can look at them, read them and hear real English in a meaningful context. A good site for the very young learners is Storyplace.

  • We are focussing on the Bath time theme, so click on the online story I will not take a bath. The story will be loaded in just some seconds. We are using it in cicle inicial.

  • To play the story, you only have to click on the arrow dplam1p3_7.jpg. To turn over the page, you have to click on the arrow.
  1. Despite at first sight it seems difficult for young learners to understand the story, the pictures and its movement make easy easier for kids to follow along. Because of the visual aid the get the gist of the story. Our suggestion is to focus on the easier toys vocabulary (eg to take a bath, a rubber ducky, a bucket, a boat, etc.) and the line of the story.
  • When the story is finished, you can start over or exit, but before leaving the on-line story it is strongly recommended to foster it to enter the online activity as well as the take home activity.

Activity framework

  • Methodology: Due to the fact that the activity is for young learners and their may need as many help with computers use as with English language, the teacher should lead the activity by using a a laptop/computer with internet connection and a beamer in the class. Students can take turns to turn over the pages with the mouse to make the activity more interactive.
  • Timing: thirty minutes class
  • Resources: laptop/computer with internet connection and a beamer in the class
  • Complementary material: realia to introduce previously the new vocabulary

Additional information

In the art and craft class you can make the take home activity to foster the one done online. Have a look at the other stories in the same section as well as at the elementary library.
